Graston Therapy

Pain can often times indicate something is not functioning properly within the muscles, tendons,  ligaments, and nerve tissue. Chiropractic medicine identifies the internal issues that may affect pain, structure, and function. Our doctors on Staff will use various physical medicine procedures and techniques to help address and correct the problem rather than merely mask/cover up the symptoms with addictive opioids and prevent unnecessary surgery.

What is Graston Technique?

"Graston technique" utilizes special aircraft quality steel instruments to treat muscle, ligament, tendon, and nerve soft tissues by breaking down scar tissue and eliminating harmful metabolic chemicals in the body tissue to decrease pain, increase range of motion, and improve function. The primary metabolic chemical eliminated during this procedure is lactic acid, which if too prevalent can compromise the function of the muscle and ligament tissue. Graston cross fiber/friction technique help to eliminate these chemicals while reducing the formation of bulbous scarring. As a result, the connective tissues heal more in a linear pattern compared to a random disorganized healing pattern. The less organized the healing pattern occurs, the more likely the tissues will rip or tear again and allow pain to return.

What is Myofascial Release Technique?

"Myofascial Release" or commonly referred to a "Trigger Point Therapy," involves the doctor using various methods to apply specific pressure to discreet problematic areas within the soft tissues. Muscles commonly suffer with trigger points which can “short circuit” the muscle function. These hypersensitive areas or trigger points often contain several metabolic by products which cause pain and hamper function. Trigger point therapy helps to limit these harmful chemicals while allowing the body to eliminate them into the lymphatic system.

Instruments used during the procedure

  • Graston type (aircraft grade) stainless steel soft tissue tools
  • Thera-gun high vibration deep tissue tool
  • Manual Knobber tool
  • Activator instrument
  • Manual thumb pressure applied by doctor

Health Benefits of these techniques

  • Decrease pain
  • Decrease hypertonicity and spasm in muscles
  • Increase range of motion
  • Improve function
  • Decrease bulbous scar tissue formation
  • Eliminate undesirable metabolic chemicals
  • Enhance athletic performance
