Electrical muscle stimulation

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) is a special form of electrical current that is administered at the site of a soft tissue injury, especially muscle, for the blocking of pain.

How does it work?

ems

Small amounts of electrical current are induced into affected soft tissues to decrease spasticity and reduce swelling. This widely used technique safely strengthens muscle and helps reduced painful symptoms. Patients generally feel a slight tingling sensation at first. Since your body may become accustomed to the initials setting, the intensity may be raised during the course of your 10-15 minutes treatment, for maximum healing effect.  EMS is recommended in cases in which pain is accompanied by swelling, inflammation and muscle spasticity.

Our Clinic uses a variety of electrotherapy, including low level laser, trans-cutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, and muscle stimulation. A constant continuous current is used with EMS to reduce pain and muscle spasm without  the use of drugs which may become addictive. Electrotherapy is beneficial for neck pain, headaches, mid back pain, hip pain, low back pain, knee pain, other extremities, sports injuries, and car accident trauma injuries.

Benefits and Effects of Electrotherapy

  • Reduce pain
  • Increase range of motion
  • Increase strength
  • Improve circulation
  • Increase body’s natural pain relieving chemicals
