The Importance of Chiropractors in the Healthcare System

Chiropractors are unique in the healthcare system in that they only use holistic methods when it comes to treating their patients. They do not prescribe medications, instead they rely on adjustments, stretches, exercises, and modalities (hot/cold therapy for example) in order to help their patients heal. A chiropractor can take x-rays so they can see exactly what is going on causing the patient’s pain and what they need to focus on in their treatment plans.

Doctors of Chiropractic focus primarily on neuromuscular conditions and injuries. Their belief is that if you stop obstructions in the spine/nerves then the body has the ability to heal itself. They use adjustments in order to clear the pathways so that your body can talk to itself properly and repair. They know hundreds of diseases though and many of them they can diagnose due to how the body is responding. If a condition is suspected that requires medical attention, a chiropractor can help point you in the right direction so you are not wasting time going to several different doctors.

Chiropractors and medical doctors work best for the patient when they work together. There have been studies that have shown that seeing a chiropractor for back pain can help to decrease the overall cost of treatment for the patient. In turn, if more people were referred to a chiropractor by medical doctors, the costs of the healthcare system could be reduced. Chiropractors work without using seriously addictive opioids. This gives the medical doctor another option other than prescribing pain relievers. When the chiropractor suspects the need for more imaging etc., the medical doctor and chiropractic doctor can work together to get them the services needed.

Chiropractors have a unique perspective on how they can help a patient in pain. They are an important part of the healthcare system since they don’t prescribe addictive pain relievers and work to help the patient heal more holistically. They help decrease the costs of healthcare and are highly educated in not only neuromuscular conditions but overall health conditions as well.
